This 19th C. English servants' bell is in original condition with an aged finish. The steel spring was activated by a chain pulled from another room, to signal staff to attend. The brass pull is a lever mechanism that is attached to a circular brass disc, which was fixed into the wall or door frame. It could also have been used as a front door bell, with the pull handle outside on the door frame, and the bell inside. The bell and pull are in good working order. The bell has its original iron clapper and sounds clean and clear when rung. The spring is fully functional. Bell HxWxD=255mm x 125mm x 90mm Pull HxWxD= 140mm x 80mm x 70mm |
